What is Herpes?

Herpes is a viral infection caused by herpes simplex virus. It is dangerous in people with weak immune system and in new born.

What are types of Herpes Simplex?

There are commonly two type of herpes simplex virus:
  • Herpes Simplex type 1
  • Herpes Simplex type 2

Symptoms of Herpes

  • Cold sores are the common symptoms of herpes which occur in and around the mouth and genital region.

ANTIBODY TEST:
Antibody is a protein produced by the body in response to the infection by the human immunity system. With direct fluorescent antibody testing, antibody stick to the fluorescent dye  and glow under a microscope there by making it easy to detect its presence.



PCR BLOOD TEST: 

It checks for pieces of DNA of virus hence this test is capable of identifying herpes with or without the genital symptoms. As it searches for the DNA of the virus it is more accurate and reliable in the process of diagnosis.


HERPES VIRUS ANTIGEN DETECTION TEST:

Cells from a fresh sore is scraped and observed under a microscope. It detects the marker on the surface of the cells infected with herpes simplex virus.


HERPES VIRAL CULTURE:

This test is mostly not applied due to its false-negative results. In this test fluid or cells are collected from a fresh sore with a cotton swab and placed in the culture cup.
